Edit Response
Modify AI responses after they're generated to test different conversation paths and model behavior.
What is Edit Response?
Edit Response lets you change what an AI model said and continue the conversation as if it had originally provided your edited version. Perfect for testing and experimentation.
Why Use It?
- Test Scenarios - Explore "what if" conversation paths
- Prompt Engineering - See how models respond to different contexts
- Training Examples - Create ideal conversation flows
- Model Testing - Test consistency with modified history
How to Use
In Lab Chat
- AI generates a response
- Click "Edit Response" button next to the message
- Modify the response text
- Click "Save"
- Continue conversation - AI sees your edited version
Example
Original:
You: What's the capital of France?
AI: The capital of France is Paris.
After Editing:
You: What's the capital of France?
AI: I'm not sure about that. [You edited this]
You: It's Paris. Tell me about its history.
AI: [Responds as if it was initially uncertain]
Use Cases
Prompt Engineering
- Test how models handle corrections
- See responses to ideal setups
- Build better conversation flows
Model Testing
- Test consistency across responses
- Evaluate how models use context
- Compare behavior with different histories
Documentation
- Create example conversations
- Show ideal model responses
- Build training materials
Tips
- Edit to create ideal conversation flows
- Test model responses to corrections
- Save edited conversations as snapshots
- Use for model behavior research
- Experiment with different contexts
Limitations
- Only available in Lab Chat
- Can't edit user messages (only AI responses)
- Edited conversations still use original costs
- Some models may respond differently to edited context
Next Steps
- Lab Chat - Where editing happens
- Model Swapping - Combine with model switching
- Snapshots - Save edited conversations
